Distant Hill & Our Kubota Tractor

“Give us the tools, and we will finish the job.” - Winston Churchill

A LONG RELATIONSHIP WITH KUBOTA

I bought my first Kubota tractor 40 years ago from Pinnacleview Equipment Inc. of Walpole, NH, located just six miles away. Pinnacleview and Kubota have been crucial to the success of Distant Hill becoming the valuable community resource it is today. Read on…

KUBOTA HARD AT WORK

In 1979 we purchased 21 acres of Walpole land, and the 1985 Kubota L2550 I bought from Pinnacleview was integral in the making of Distant Hill. In 1987 we built a swimming pond using my L2550 and winch to clear the pond site. We split the resulting 20 cords of wood with a wood splitter powered by the Kubota.

DISTANT HILL GARDENS

In 1990, we began construction of a large shrub garden with the hope of someday making it a public garden. With the help of the bucket loader, we leveled garden beds, dug out rocks, and built stone walls throughout the gardens. Over the years we have bought additional abutting acreage and now steward 155-acres, all maintained with the same 1986 Kubota L2550 we started with.

FYI - Our dream of opening a public garden came true ten years later in 2000 when we opened Distant Hill Gardens to the public.

LOGGING WITH MY KUBOTA

In 2004, with my Kubota and a winch I purchased from Pinnacleview, felled a few dozen large white pines, skidded then to a landing with m Kubota, and then had them milled by Jan Galloway of Walpole with her portable sawmill. The resulting lumber was used to build this timber frame sugar house.

DISTANT HILL NATURE TRAIL PUT OUR KUBOTA TO THE TEST

The construction of two-miles of accessible trail which began in 2013 really put our Kubota to the test -and I’m happy to say that it passed with flying colors! Over the past ten years I moved a total of 125 truckloads of gravel. That’s 2,500 tons - over 7,500 buckets - moved with my Kubota!

The building of Distant Hill Nature Trail is a testament to the durability of Kubota tractors - our biggest expense over ten years to build two miles of traIls has been tires. Other than normal wear and tear and maintenance items, we have had no major repairs to our Kubota in forty years!
